Web Design
Create Your Own Website with Wordpress
1 Day
This day-long course will introduce you to Wordpress: an easy-to-manage, web-based framework for creating a website that incorporates blogs and comments. This is an ideal platform for creating rich and exciting media portfolio and gallery websites - perfect for filmmakers and photographers. Learn how to:
- Download, install and configure Wordpress (one time process)
- Customise your website using the free themes
- Create additional pages
- Add images and video
- Manage your and other people's comments
- Add tags to your Wordpress site
- Change default background images
- Add widgets such as calendars
Ideally, participants will come with their own domain and hosting package, however, a test hosting space will be provided for others.

Animation
Flash Animation Workshop for Adults
1 Weekend
Students will work individually or in teams an animated short (up to one minute), using Adobe Flash. Students will work on scripting a short story, storyboarding the script, design background art, props and characters, record dialogue, and animating their scenes. The course will speed up the production process by using Flash templates for layout and pre-rigged characters.

Flash Animation for Young People
4 Days
Filmbase is offering a 4 day immersive course in digital animation for young people using the industry standard software Adobe Flash. Over the course of a week, students will gain a grounding in digital drawing and animation techniques as well as an understanding of storytelling through moving image. By the end of the week each student will have produced their own animated short film. This course is very hands-on, practical and, above all, FUN!

Broadcast Animation Production
10 Evenings
Using a model Flash animated film, the students will be brought through the logical order of an animation production pipeline using the following applications: Adobe's Flash, After Effects, and Apple's Final Cut Pro editing software, (including audio dialog recording). Students will start with basic story principles, and script writing for animation. They will progress to storyboarding their script, designing characters and backgrounds, and creating an animatic. They will finish their film with animating and lip synching their characters, performing camera moves, and polishing their film with special effects.
In conjunction with the animation theory, the students will be creating animated short films. The course will culminate with a showing of these films to friends and family.
Along with the development of student's animated short films, topics include:
- An introduction to the Broadcast Flash production pipeline and Flash interface
- Story elements and creating characters
- Animation techniques
- Story scripts and storyboarding using Flash templates
- Recording audio dialog and lip synching
- Introduction to animatic building using Final Cut Pro
- Digital layouts including camera movements
- Introduction to After Effects and final editing
Trainer: Clifford Parrot
Cliff is co-author of 'Hollywood 2D Digital Animation' which is the industry standard for Flash based animation production and is used as a text book for many art schools. For Cliff's online portfolio, click here.

Design For Print
4 Days
This four-day course will cover all the stages involved in creating a piece of designed, printed material from inception to delivery of the finished product. Using a combination of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, the following areas of Design will be covered:
- Areas of print design; brochures, magazines, book covers, typesetting, packaging, display design
- Sourcing images; legality
- Resolution and colour space: CMYK & RGB
- Discussion of styles/design solutions
- Print options - what paper stock
- Manipulation and combining images and prepping for use in layout (Photoshop)
- Receiving copy
- Discussion of basics of typography - font usage, margins and gutter, use of images, paragraph options etc.
- Creating basic document layouts (InDesign)
- Creation of any illustrative or diagramatic elements (Illustrator); also touching on logo design
- Combining elements on final print ready document
- Creation of low resolution proofs for client
- Implementation of final changes - client sign off
- Creation of high resolution PDFs to send to print
- Roundup discussion of best practices

Course Cancellation Policy
If notice is received at least (i) 14 days in advance of the class, the Customer is entitled to a full refund, (ii) 7 days of the class, the customer is entitled to a full class credit which must be used within 3 months of the date of the original class to another class offered by Filmbase. Customer is not entitled to a refund or class credit if less than 7 day advance notice is given. Failure to provide notice at least 14 days in advance of the class obligates the Customer to pay the full price of the class.
Filmbase reserves the right to amend or cancel the date, time and location of a Training class including replacing the personnel who may be scheduled to deliver the Training. In the event a Training class is cancelled, the customer is entitled to a full refund. Filmbase shall not be responsible for any other loss incurred by Customer as a result of a cancellation or amendment.
