Video Editing Fundamentals
1 Day Workshops
In these one-day workshops, students will learn the fundamentals of non-linear video editing using Final Cut Pro 7, Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 or the new Final Cut Pro X.
These workshops are designed for the complete beginner who wishes to get familiar with the key elements of importing, assembling and exporting their video content.
Topics covered:
- Relationship between the editing application and the media files
- Good organization and backup principles
- Formats and compression explained
- Capturing tape and ingesting file-based formats
- Organising clips and naming conventions
- Previewing footage and assembling an initial rough cut
- Fine-tuning the rough cut with simple trimming methods
- Brief introduction to adding titles, effects and color correction
- Exporting a final master copy of the edit and outputting for DVD and the Web

Editing Documentaries with Final Cut Pro
3 Days
Learn to use Final Cut Pro 7 by cutting a version of an award-winning short documentary. This three day, hands-on course will cover the entire workflow of editing a documentary in Final Cut Pro. From the initial importing and organization of footage to building a rough cut to final output for the Web or DVD, this course will teach you the skills to tackle even the most complex projects. Topics include:
- System settings and organising footage on external drives
- Organising media using bins, labels, columns of metadata and naming techniques
- Navigating footage, identifying and highlighting material using markers and subclips
- Basic editing techniques
- Finding the story and getting to the first cut
- Refining the cut by rearranging clips and using the trimming tools
- Enhancing the story with audio editing (adding sound effects and music)
- Applying effects such as transitions and colour correction filters to achieve the style and look you want
- Exporting different formats for viewing on the Web and DVD

Introduction to Video Compression
3 Hour Session
Do you want to have your video online but you are not sure what is the best way? Are you not sure what compression is? Do you want to rip a DVD or you want to get the best possible quality from your footage?
This half a day session is designed to explain important notions about compression and formats in video and audio and to give you guidelines on the best way to work with your video / audio clips. Learn also how to organise workflows, generate mobile, YouTube, vimeo, email movies, DVD files and more.
Intended Audience:
This introductory seminar is recommended for editors and filmmakers starting out as well as anyone that uses video and audio for work as well as the more curious video hobbyists. It's also ideal for people who need to archive and organize digital content. Participants will have access to a number of MacBook Pro workstations during the session in order to see the various techniques in practice.

Apple's Compressor, MPEG Streamclip, iTunes, Final Cut Pro & Adobe Photoshop

Course Cancellation Policy
If notice is received at least (i) 14 days in advance of the class, the Customer is entitled to a full refund, (ii) 7 days of the class, the customer is entitled to a full class credit which must be used within 3 months of the date of the original class to another class offered by Filmbase. Customer is not entitled to a refund or class credit if less than 7 day advance notice is given. Failure to provide notice at least 14 days in advance of the class obligates the Customer to pay the full price of the class.
Filmbase reserves the right to amend or cancel the date, time and location of a Training class including replacing the personnel who may be scheduled to deliver the Training. In the event a Training class is cancelled, the customer is entitled to a full refund. Filmbase shall not be responsible for any other loss incurred by Customer as a result of a cancellation or amendment.
