About ShortSpace

Interested in short films?
Got a short film to share?
Then ShortSpace is the place for you!

Hosted at Filmbase on the first Thursday of every month, ShortSpace is the place for filmmakers and film fans to get together, screen and discuss short films and short filmmaking!

Each month Filmbase will select a variety of short films based around a specific theme or topic. These films will be screened and then the filmmakers behind the films will be asked to talk about their experience in making the film. ShortSpace was launched in September 2010 with a focus on making your first short film since then there have been a whole host of sessions on topics ranging casting to visual effects and funding to scriptwriting. For more details on the next session see below - for more details on past sessions check out the links at the bottom of this page.

Upcoming ShortSpace
First Fortnight Festival Special!
7pm, Thursday 5th January 2012

First Fortnight Logo

For the next session we'll be taking a bit of a departure from the norm to link in with the excellent First Fortnight Festival which takes place during the first two weeks in January. The festival is an arts-based mental health awareness project that began as a live music gig preceded by a public mental health symposium in the daytime, to being two weeks of visual arts, music, talks and of course film!

Mental health prejudice and discrimination can do more lasting harm to people than a period of low mood or self harm. An awareness campaign in the First Fortnight of the year works because we are all a little raw that time of year and more likely to be open to an empathic response. First Fortnight Festival plans to make the first two weeks of every year synonymous with mental health awareness to help end discrimination, prejudice and social stigma.

To tie in with the festival we have partnered with the IFI to offer a selection of Irish short films that deal with a whole variety of mental health issues. As always, there will be a chance to talk to the filmmakers involved after the screening and we look forward to the post-screening discussion.

Tickets are just €5 and are available through the First Fortnight Festival website at http://firstfortnight.com
