Culture Night at Filmbase
Filmbase is delighted to once again be participating in Culture Night and this year we have a whole host of activities planned. So if you're interested in learning more about filmmaking and what it takes to be a filmmaker or if you just want to catch some of the latest Irish short films then make sure to include Filmbase in your travels on Culture Night!
Free activities and events on the night include short film screenings throughout the night. We'll also have tips on directing and camera as well as a showcase of the latest edition of Apple's editing software Final Cut Pro X! And you can get your hands on a free copy of Film Ireland magazine so, if you're interested in getting into film make sure to call by Filmbase!
Get into Film - Filming in Action Event

This year Filmbase will be offering you a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes on a film set. Filmmakers Michael Lavelle and Denise Woods will be with us on the night to film a simple scene with you, the live audience there to see how it all happens! Writer/director Michael Lavelle (Out of the Blue, Mummy's Little Helper) will be directing a simple scene which cinematographer Denise Woods (The Door Ajar, Thursday Afternoon) capturing it on tape as they go. This is set to be a fun way to find out how a director and cinematographer work together and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions about both areas as they work! Later, editor Paul Schwer will be taking the footage and using it as part of his demo on the latest editing software from Apple, Final Cut Pro X so you'll get to see how the scene takes shape on screen! (see below for more details on the editing event)
This event is free and anyone interested in attending is asked to pop by Filmbase for 6pm sharp - it'll be first-come, first-served so arrive early!

As Ireland's first Apple Authorised Training Centre, Filmbase is the perfect place to learn all about editing with Final Cut Pro, Apple's professional editing software. Filmbase Post-production and Multimedia Training Manager Paul Schwer will be presenting the latest edition Final Cut Pro X.
Places are limited so please email paul filmbase.ie if you're interested in attending. Also, Paul will be using some footage shot during the 'Filming in Action' event which is free and open to all. So, feel free to drop in for that event also - see above for more details!
Short Film Screenings
Ground Floor - free, open to all, continuous throughout the evening
A selection of Irish shorts will be screening on our ground floor screens throughout the night. This special selection of shorts will start at 5pm and will screen on a loop throughout the night until 11pm. This is free and open to all so call by Filmbase to check out what Irish filmmaking talent has to offer. Special thanks to the Irish Film Board for their assistance in putting together this programme (www.irishfilmboard.ie).
Just some of the titles to catch on the night include short dramas Alive by Traolach O'Murchu and The Incredible Shrinking Office by Stephen Kane. There's also dance film Deep End Dance directed by Conor Horgan and choreographed by David Bolger and animation A Gentleman's Guide to Villainy by Aidan McAteer. And for the documentary enthusiasts we have the award-winning short Bye Bye Now by Ross Whittaker and Aideen O'Sullivan.
